LOS ANGELES — The Rams have placed running back Kyren Williams on injured reserve, as announced by the team on Saturday.
Williams, who suffered an ankle injury during Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals, is expected to miss a minimum of four games. The talented second-year running back will be eligible to make his return during Week 12 against the Cardinals.
In addition, the Rams are currently without backup running back Ronnie Rivers, who also sustained a knee injury in the same game. Rivers was placed on injured reserve earlier this week by the team.
In the six games played this season, Williams has showcased his skills with 456 rushing yards on 97 carries and 105 receiving yards on 13 catches. Notably, he has recorded a total of seven touchdowns, six rushing and one receiving.
Earlier this week, the Rams made some changes to their running back roster. They promoted running back Royce Freeman to the active roster and signed Darrell Henderson Jr., who was waived by the team last season, to the practice squad.
The Rams also signed Myles Gaskin off the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad on Wednesday and added him to their active roster. Additionally, they have rookie sixth-round pick Zach Evans on the team.
On Friday, Rams coach Sean McVay mentioned that he had an idea about the running back rotation for the upcoming game against the Pittsburgh Steelers; however, he chose not to disclose the details. It was confirmed that Henderson would be active, as McVay praised his ability to quickly adapt to the team’s strategies and techniques.
“There’s a chance that all four guys could be active, and if not, we’ll go with three,” McVay stated. “We’re still in the process of determining which three out of the four will make the final rotation, or if we’ll have all four of them.”
