Did Khamzat Chimaev do enough against Kamaru Usman to get a title shot?

Khamzat Chimaev could potentially secure a UFC title shot in the middleweight division. The UFC announced that the winner of the UFC 294 co-feature bout would be in line for a title opportunity in Abu Dhabi.

Originally scheduled to face Paulo Costa, Chimaev received news just 10 days before the event that a replacement opponent would be required. Enter Kamaru Usman. The former UFC welterweight champion stepped up on short notice, aiming to recover from his losses to Leon Edwards. However, Chimaev emerged victorious.

While Chimaev dominated the first round with a 10-8 score, some argue that Usman won the next two rounds. Given the fight’s outcome and the uncertainty of Chimaev’s performance in a five-round match, can we confidently say he deserves the next title shot over other contenders?

Dricus Du Plessis presents a strong case for a shot at UFC gold but might be overlooked if the promotion stays true to its word and grants it to the undefeated Chimaev.

In the video above, our “Spinning Back Clique” featuring Farah Hannoun, Nolan King, and Brian “Goze” Garcia discuss Chimaev’s place in the middleweight title picture, along with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.
