Stephanie Connelly-Eiswerth, a PGA teaching professional at the San Jose Country Club in Jacksonville, made history by securing victory during a PGA Tournament Series event in Port St. Lucie. This achievement marked the first time a woman has accomplished such a feat in the event’s 46-year history.
Connelly-Eiswerth clinched her one-shot victory by shooting a 4-under 67 in Event No. 1 on the Ryder Course at PGA Golf Club. Her triumph came as she made a 2-foot bogey putt on the final hole, securing her place in the record books.
She expressed her delight on winning, stating, “It feels wonderful to win. I have finished second a lot this year.”
Notably, female participants in PGA events play from tees that are set up at 83.7% of the men’s distance, which was the case in Event No. 1 where the men played 6,702 yards and the women 5,614.
The event witnessed fierce competition from Tyler Collet, but it was Connelly-Eiswerth who emerged victorious, finishing at 10-under 132.
While Connelly-Eiswerth’s success received widespread acclaim, she reflected on previous near-victories, mentioning, “I knew a lot of the guys would be out chasing. There were definitely some opportunities to make birdies. I just said to keep chasing and play like I’m behind.”
