Jiri Prochazka is set to compete for the UFC light-heavyweight title against ex-middleweight champion Alex Pereira for the vacant belt.
Prochazka, the UFC’s first-ever Czech champion, had to relinquish the title in 2022 due to an injury, and he is ready to make another bid for the gold at UFC 295, headlining against Brazilian Pereira.
Their fight was meant to be the co-main event at Madison Square Garden, but Jon Jones’s injury in October forced the cancellation of his heavyweight title defense against Stipe Miocic, prompting a reshuffle of the fight card.
The new co-main event will witness Britain’s Tom Aspinall taking on Russia’s Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight belt. The winner of this bout is expected to challenge Jones in 2024, potentially leaving former champ Miocic on the sidelines.
