UTSA Football Triumphs in Historic American Athletic Conference Debut

UTSA vs Tennessee on Sept. 23, 2023

PHILADELPHIA – UTSA football ended their two-game losing streak with a dominant 49-34 victory over Temple at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Frank Harris, returning after missing the previous two games, showcased his skills by completing 25 of 33 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns.

Harris’ return provided a much-needed boost to the UTSA offense, resulting in a season-high 49 points. The Roadrunners (2-2, 1-0 AAC) initially faced a deficit in the game, but rallied back with three touchdowns in the second quarter.

After Temple scored early, UTSA responded with a 14-yard touchdown run from Kevorian Barnes to tie the game. The Owls (2-4, 0-1) quickly retaliated with a score of their own, but the Roadrunners answered with two more touchdowns.

Harris connected with Joshua Cephus for a 17-yard touchdown pass, and three minutes later, he led the offense downfield for a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Both teams scored again before halftime, with UTSA taking a 28-21 lead.

In the third quarter, the Roadrunners secured the lone touchdown when Harris found Tykee Ogle-Kellogg for a 40-yard passing touchdown. Despite Temple’s two scores in the fourth quarter, UTSA’s offense proved too much to handle, resulting in a final score of 49-34 in favor of UTSA.

The Roadrunners excelled in all areas of the game, finally forcing turnovers after struggling in that department all season. The offense performed exceptionally well after facing challenges during non-conference play. The team appears to have found their rhythm at just the right time.

Next up, the Roadrunners will return home to face the UAB Blazers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Alamodome.
