In anticipation of the upcoming season, Coach Darian DeVries is excited to introduce the ten new players joining the Drake men’s basketball roster. With the arrival of these fresh talents, the Bulldogs are poised to unveil a new and improved team this year.

Despite the changes that come with a substantial roster turnover, Coach DeVries remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. Drake was selected as the pre-season favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference following their championship-winning performance last season. In fact, Tucker DeVries, the reigning pre-season Player of the Year, is expected to defend his title, while Darnell Brodie has been named to the Preseason All-MVC Second Team.

Coach DeVries is thrilled with the group of players and their work ethic, eager to see what they can achieve on the court. With such high expectations on their shoulders, the stage is set for an exciting season of Drake basketball.

Tucker DeVries, having developed under a seasoned group of players, is now ready to assume a larger role as a junior. Coach DeVries acknowledges that Tucker will not only need to be a scorer but also a facilitator for the team. The young star has shown tremendous growth, and with his increased experience, he is primed to make a significant impact on the offensive end.

Traditionally, Drake basketball fans have grown accustomed to a familiar starting lineup. However, this season brings some uncertainty in that regard. While Tucker DeVries and Darnell Brodie are locks for the starting lineup, other positions are up for grabs. With the departure of Roman Penn, Conor Enright is expected to step in as the point guard. As for the remaining spots, Coach DeVries admits they are still in the process of evaluation.

With a diverse mix of talent, including top recruits and seasoned transfers, Drake’s roster for this season boasts several new faces. The addition of four transfers, Kyron Gibson, Atin Wright, Carlos Rosario, and Ethan Roberts, adds depth and experience to the team. Roberts, last season’s Rookie of the Year in the Patriot League, and Wright, with over 1,000 career points, are particularly exciting prospects. Additionally, the team welcomed six freshmen: Kevin Overton, Colby Garland, Patrick Bath, Bennett Fried, Chico Johnson, and Elijah Price. The infusion of fresh blood required a unique preparation approach for the team, but Coach DeVries is confident in their abilities to make an impact.

Drake’s defense suffered a blow with the departure of D.J. Wilkins, an outstanding defender in the Missouri Valley Conference. Filling his shoes will not be an easy task. Coach DeVries acknowledges that it will take a collective effort from the team to compensate for Wilkins’ absence. The players must demonstrate their defensive prowess and understanding of the game to become a solid defensive unit.

Looking ahead to the start of the season, Coach DeVries is pleased with the team’s overall health. Injuries have plagued the team in the past, but currently, they are in a good position. Conor Enright, who experienced some setbacks, is on track to return fully fit for the season opener.
