MADISON – Touted freshman Gus Yalden is temporarily leaving the Wisconsin men’s basketball team to address a family matter, as announced by head coach Greg Gard on Wednesday.

Yalden did not participate in practice on Monday due to a previously scheduled appointment, according to a UW official.

Despite taking a leave of absence, Yalden will continue receiving student-athlete services and support from the team and staff while remaining enrolled in school.

The exhibition game against UW-Stevens Point, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, will proceed without Yalden’s participation. Nonetheless, Gard assured his unwavering support for Yalden and his family, emphasizing that they are an integral part of the Wisconsin basketball family.

Yalden was sidelined for about a week of practice due to injuries sustained in a scooter accident. While Gard has been exploring various lineup combinations during practice, Yalden was not among the top players being evaluated.
