Good morning, confused about the hoddle picture? This is Iga Swiatek. She’s the World No. 1 and reigning French Open champion. Today’s TOTD brings me back to 2016 when I was traveling from London to Sussex with my tennis team from the University of Westminster for our first competitive match. On the way there, I remember listening to the Beach Boys. Despite losing my singles that day with a score of 6-1 6-1, I had a great time with my friends. They are the first images that pop into my mind when I think of Brighton.
My journey has been full of ups and downs. Back in September, I made my unceremonious return to competitive tennis following a defeat in my mixed doubles league. However, I persevered and, after a few difficult singles matches, I recalled my love for tennis while playing against one of my best friends from university.
Fast forward to the mixed doubles final, which I won 2-6 6-3 10-2 with a major case of nerves. Despite feeling more relieved than proud, this victory is a stepping stone towards my goal of returning to top form.
Even though I played poorly, my partner was my hero, and her support was invaluable. My journey has been challenging, but my return to competitive tennis has reignited my passion for the sport. Although there is still much work to do, I am grateful for this win and eager to continue improving. Keep grinding, play lots of tennis, and continue the journey towards becoming the player I used to be. Today’s track of the day is “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by The Beach Boys.
