Tigers Score Big as Top Rated Point Guard Curtis Givens Commits

LSU Basketball Lands Top-100 Combo Guard Prospect Curtis Givens for Future Rebuilding Efforts

LSU Basketball faced challenges last season, finishing at the bottom of the SEC standings largely due to struggles in the backcourt. In an effort to rebuild, the team made changes during the offseason, resulting in the departure of four of the five key guards. Only Trae Hannibal, a 5th-year senior, remains.

However, Hannibal is set to leave after this season, and there is uncertainty around Jalen Cook, a senior transfer from Tulane. Cook may choose to leave with 1-2 years of eligibility remaining. Apart from Santa Clara SG Carlos Stewart and four-star freshman Mike Williams III, there is limited guard depth moving forward. This makes it imperative for the Tigers to secure key guards in the 2024 recruiting class.

Unexpectedly, LSU was able to secure the commitment of Curtis Givens over the weekend, which is considered a surprise pickup for the team.

Givens is a 6’2 playmaking guard from Memphis, Tennessee, and is ranked as a consensus four-star prospect in the 2024 class, with a 247sportsComposite ranking in the top 60. He possesses excellent ball-handling skills and the versatility to play alongside another guard if necessary.

Leading up to the commitment, Memphis was viewed as the frontrunner due to Givens’ hometown connection. However, LSU managed to outperform and secure his commitment.

Givens joins four-star power forward commit Robert Miller in the 2024 class. The Tigers remain active in pursuing other 4 and 5-star recruits, with more visits scheduled. Another commitment before the start of the 2023-24 season would not be surprising for the program.
