Streamsong ready to open ‘The Chain,’ a non-traditional short course

Not so long ago, the golf industry was struggling. Golf courses were closing, club manufacturers downsizing, and a large number of avid golfers retiring. Amid this slowdown, The Mosaic Co. surprised everyone in 2010 by announcing plans to build one of the largest golf resorts in Florida, even though they weren’t in the golf business. The Mosaic Co. is known for its mining operations, not leisure activities.

The resort, named “Streamsong,” is located in southern Polk County, far from the nearest supermarket. Locals were puzzled, wondering how Mosaic planned to attract golfers to this remote location. But to everyone’s surprise, Streamsong became an instant success, drawing rave reviews.

After being sold to a subsidiary of Kemper Sports Management, Streamsong is now preparing to open its fourth course, “The Chain,” designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. This 19-hole short course is set to be a unique addition to the resort’s offerings.

The new course, situated close to the property’s 228-room lodge, offers multiple configurations and a flexible pricing structure, attracting golfers of all levels. The non-traditional design is in line with the rising trend of unique and alternative golf courses.
