The Raiders have made it clear to teams that they are not interested in moving on from Adams, even if the All-Pro is open to a trade, according to sources. Adams signed a five-year deal with Las Vegas in 2022 and was intended to be one of the key players in Raiders coach Josh McDaniels’ offensive strategy.
Adams publicly expressed his frustration over his role in the Raiders offense last week, sparking speculation across the NFL that Las Vegas might consider trading him. ESPN sources confirm that some teams showed interest in trading for Adams last season, although it is unknown whether they reached out to the Raiders.
Several teams are reportedly considering trading for Adams in the near future, according to insider sources.
Adams addressed his frustration on Wednesday, after being targeted only nine times in the Raiders’ last two games. He believes that by utilizing him more, the Raiders will have a greater chance of success, regardless of the team’s recent victories.
“If things aren’t going according to plan, I’ll be frustrated if I’m not involved,” Adams said. “I have the ability to influence and improve the situation. If Jakobi [Meyers] has a standout game or if the offense is scoring every five plays, as we did in our first drive against the Bills, then that’s just the way it is.
“It’s not about me, but I play a significant role in the success of this offense. If I’m not being utilized, then obviously the plan is not working.”
These latest comments add to a series of incidents where Adams has expressed dissatisfaction with the Raiders.
During an interview with The Ringer in May, Adams stated, “We don’t see eye-to-eye on what we believe is best for us right now,” before posting a photo the following day with Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler, captioned “The Man” and showing the two of them arm-in-arm.
Last season, when Adams’ college teammate Derek Carr was benched, he posted on Instagram saying, “The reason I’m a Raider.”
Adams, who is 30 years old, has recorded 39 receptions for 471 yards and three touchdowns in six games this season. He had 13 catches on 20 targets against the Steelers in Week 3 and eight catches on 13 targets in the following week against the Chargers. However, in the last two games, he has only six receptions on nine targets.
Head coach Josh McDaniels commented on the situation, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that our best players have the opportunity to make an impact in the game, and they can only do what they can do. I know for sure that Davante will do everything in his power to help us win. He has a great attitude and mindset. He is one of the most competitive individuals I have ever been around, and it’s only natural that he wants the ball and wants to contribute.”
