Legendary Manchester United player Sir Bobby Charlton was honored at a memorial service this Monday, attended by a number of high-profile guests including former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Prince William, the president of the Football Association.
The event, held in Manchester, saw many iconic figures from the club such as David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and more pay their respects to the late Sir Bobby Charlton, who passed away at the age of 86 last month. Notably, the Glazer family, who own Manchester United, did not attend the service.
The funeral procession began at Old Trafford and culminated at Manchester Cathedral, where attendees heard moving eulogies and tributes from former club figures. The ceremony also featured emotional performances of classic hymns and songs sung by acclaimed opera singer Russell Watson. Attendees were invited to donate to a number of charities in lieu of flowers, in honor of Sir Bobby Charlton’s legacy.
