Joe Pyfer is set to take on his most accomplished opponent yet in his first UFC main event next year in a quest to climb the middleweight ladder.
Pyfer (12-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC) will face Jack Hermansson (23-8 MMA, 10-6 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night main event scheduled for February 10 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The matchup was announced by UFC CEO Dana White and is expected to stream on ESPN+.
Pyfer made his way into the UFC in 2022 through Dana White’s Contender Series. He secured a $50,000 performance bonus in his official UFC debut by knocking out Alen Amedovski in the second round. This was followed by a first-round TKO of Gerald Meerschaert and a second-round submission of Abdul Razak Alhassan, earning him post-fight bonuses.
Hermansson, on the other hand, will attempt to return to the win column after about 14 months without a fight. The 35-year-old Swede, a former Cage Warriors middleweight champion, has had a series of alternating losses and wins in his past eight bouts.
Notably, Hermansson suffered a split decision setback to Sean Strickland in February 2022, before rebounding with a win over Chris Curtis but then being knocked out in the second round by Roman Dolidze in December 2022.
