Penn State basketball’s next opponent moves up in USA TODAY Sports Men’s College Basketball Coaches Poll

Penn State basketball kicks off the season with an impressive 4-0 home game winning streak at Bryce Jordan Center, taking down several mid-major programs. The challenge is about to escalate as the Nittany Lions head to the ESPN Events Invitational in Florida. Their next match-up brings them face to face with Texas A&M, a rematch from the NCAA Tournament, who have just climbed two spots in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

Texas A&M has jumped from no. 15 to no. 13 this week. With no games scheduled for either team before the ESPN Events Invitational, both Penn State and Texas A&M are set to face off with 4-0 records.

Penn State could potentially clash with two teams ranked in this week’s coaches poll. FAU, a Final Four team last season, plays after Penn State’s game with Texas A&M. The outcomes of these games will decide the match-ups for the second round in the ESPN Events Invitational. Unfortunately, FAU was defeated by Bryant, dropping 10 spots to no. 20 this week.

In this week’s coaches poll, Purdue is the highest-ranked Big Ten team at no. 2. Kansas leads the poll with 25 first-place votes. Other Big Ten teams in the coaches poll this week are no. 19 Michigan State and no. 22 Illinois.
