The Pittsburgh Penguins made their final roster moves on Sunday, waiving five players ahead of the NHL’s deadline to submit their season-opening roster. If these players clear waivers by Monday, they will be assigned to the American Hockey League (AHL) team, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Among the players waived, Radim Zohorna is the most noteworthy. He had an impressive preseason, tying for second in scoring on the team with three points in four games. Zohorna is signed to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000.
Vinnie Hinostroza, age 29, is also among the waived players. He has one assist and eight shots in four preseason games and is signed to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
Colin White, age 26, attended training camp on a professional tryout contract (PTO) and signed a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 on Saturday. He had no points and eight shots in four preseason games.
Mark Friedman, age 27, has a two-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000. He has played three preseason games with no points and three shots. Friedman joined the Penguins in 2021 after being claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Magnus Hellberg, age 32, played one preseason game, making 16 saves on 19 shots. He signed a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $785,000.
Austin Wagner and Libor Hajek, who attended training camp on professional tryout contracts (PTOs), were also absent from practice. Wagner, aged 26, scored one goal in three preseason games. Hajek, a left-handed 25-year-old, recorded one assist and one shot in three games.
Coach Mike Sullivan did not provide any updates on their statuses, but clarifications are expected by Monday.
