Lucas Giolito’s journey in the past season was far from ideal. After moving through three different teams—beginning with the White Sox, then being traded to the Los Angeles Angels before finally ending up with the Cleveland Guardians—he struggled to find his footing. Significantly underperforming with an unsatisfactory 7.04 ERA in Cleveland, Giolito’s prospects for the offseason seemed bleak.

However, a surprising report from the GM meetings in Arizona indicates that Giolito is expected to command a lucrative deal, ranging from $50M to $80M. This revelation, presented by the NY Post’s Jon Heyman, has polarized opinions given Giolito’s inconsistent performance across several teams last season.

Indeed, achieving a significant contract after a season marred by considerable inconsistency and poor statistics is confounding. Nevertheless, with free agency on the horizon, a long-term contract beckons for Giolito.

Despite Giolito’s struggles, the intrigue surrounding his future has only grown.
