At just 24 years old, Lando Norris played a crucial role in McLaren’s recovery from a challenging start, helping the team finish an impressive fourth in the constructors’ championship, with Norris himself securing a commendable sixth place in the drivers’ standings.
Autosport readers have recognized Norris as the best British driver of the season, placing him ahead of the likes of Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and James Calado.
In a pre-recorded message, Norris expressed his gratitude, stating, “I want to say a big thanks to all the fans for voting for me. This has been my second time receiving this beautiful trophy, with the first during COVID in 2020, which doesn’t quite count in my books. Silverstone was definitely a highlight for us this year, and that’s a testament to the incredible work the team has accomplished.”
The award has been previously won by prestigious names such as Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, as well as by commentators Martin Brundle and David Coulthard, all of whom have had successful careers in Formula 1.
Other categories the Autosport awards include are International Racing Driver of the Year, Rally Driver of the Year, Rookie of the Year, International Competition Car of the Year, and National Driver of the Year. Additionally, expert judging panels decide awards such as the Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, Autosport Williams Engineer of the Future Award, and Moment of the Year, among others. A new award for 2023 is Brand Partnership of the Year.
