Kyle Larson does it all, Martin Truex is back, Homestead next

Can Kyle Larson Possibly Top What He Did Last Week?

There are still events left on the NHRA’s schedule, so perhaps we should put Kyle Larson in a dragster to expand his portfolio!

In the middle of last week, Kyle traveled to the back roads of Indiana (Greencastle) and emerged victorious in a race to secure a championship in the High Limit Sprint Car Series — a series he started himself last year, by the way.

The next day, he hurried over to Indianapolis to begin serious preparations for his debut at the Indy 500 next May. During “rookie orientation,” he gradually accustomed himself to his IndyCar rocket and eventually clocked laps in the range of 217 mph — setting the stage for even faster speeds during an all-hands test session next April.

Oh, and then he jetted off to the west and emerged victorious in the Cup race at Las Vegas, but not before making an incredible save as his Chevy skidded wildly toward the outside wall.

It is often said that Kyle Larson is a one-of-a-kind racing talent, and last week truly proved it.

NASCAR SPEED FREAKS Busy Kyle Larson locked in for Cup championship, who joins him?

Decent Vegas Run for Martin Truex. Is He Back in Form?

He led laps (nine of them) in a non-plate race for the first time in over two months, and secured his first top-10 finish (an eighth) since Watkins Glen eight weeks earlier. So that’s definitely a sign of improvement and comes at just the right time, considering the playoff circumstances.

You can argue that William Byron, Denny Hamlin, and now Kyle Larson are the favorites for the championship, but someone needs to complete the four-man battle in Phoenix.

Currently, it’s a choice between Truex and Christopher Bell, and that could change with the wave of the next checkered flag. However, considering Truex’s track record at Homestead and his potential return to a decent form, maybe we should stop underestimating him.
