Koepka continues to take aim at Wolff during LIV team finale

DORAL, Fla. – The irreparable divide between Brooks Koepka and his Smash GC teammate, Matthew Wolff, has reached a breaking point.

During the league’s season finale, Koepka shared his unsuccessful attempts to assist Wolff, stating, “I’ve dedicated a significant portion of this year to helping Matthew and trying to find a solution. Unfortunately, it seems we have reached a point where my efforts are futile. I have been transparent about my intentions, but sometimes, you simply can’t assist individuals who refuse help.”

Back in July, Koepka expressed his frustration with Wolff in an interview with Sports Illustrated, indicating that he had essentially given up on their partnership. This comment greatly affected Wolff, as he later described it as “heartbreaking.”

The tension between the two teammates only intensified recently at the LIV event in Saudi Arabia. When questioned by reporters, Koepka remarked, “There are only three of us on our team,” clearly excluding Wolff.

Koepka made no effort to conceal his indifference towards Wolff, who has been open about his struggles with mental health. With the upcoming team championship at Doral, Koepka’s Smash GC will face off against HyFlyers GC on Day 1 of the match play event. The matches consist of two singles matches and a foursome match.

Koepka will compete against HyFlyers captain Phil Mickelson in the singles match, while Jason Kokrak of Smash GC will face Cameron Tringale. In the foursomes match, Chase Koepka and Wolff will play against James Piot and Brendan Steele.

Regarding his matches, Koepka expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I feel optimistic about my match against Phil, and I believe Phil feels the same way. As for [Kokrak], it was an obvious decision to include him in the singles match. As for Wolff, I believe he anticipated being in the foursomes. It will be intriguing to see the outcome.”

Chase Koepka has struggled throughout the season on LIV Golf and is likely to be demoted. It also seems unlikely that Wolff will return in 2024. When asked about any recent interactions with Wolff, Brooks Koepka’s response spoke volumes, “No, we haven’t. We have limited contact at best,” he said.
