Knocking out Tyson Fury will be ‘different feeling’ from UFC highlights

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Francis Ngannou is renowned for delivering spectacular knockouts throughout his combat sports career, but he believes that a victory over Tyson Fury would be on another level.

Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion, is set to make his professional boxing debut in a 10-round bout against WBC heavyweight titleholder Fury, airing live on pay-per-view this Saturday.

While few outside of Ngannou, 37, and his team give him a fighting chance, he remains unfazed and relies on his unwavering self-belief. Ngannou is confident that he can connect with Fury’s chin, asserting that a knockout in this particular bout would surpass any accomplishment he has achieved thus far.

“I think that would be truly extraordinary,” Ngannou told MMA Junkie during Tuesday’s grand arrival ceremony. “It would be an entirely different experience. Normally, I can picture what it feels like to secure a knockout because I’ve had my fair share of those. But this one is unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. I can’t predict the sensation, but I know it will be something truly special.”

It has been a challenging journey for Ngannou to reach this point. After a tumultuous path, including a controversial departure from the UFC, rejecting a potential fight against Jon Jones, and pursuing different ventures, Ngannou faced plenty of skepticism. However, he has no regrets and feels that he has already triumphed in the court of public opinion. Now, he is determined to secure another victory.

“This is already a success,” Ngannou said. “This is already a win. On Saturday night, I will strive for a second victory, but I’ve already achieved so much. I have emerged victorious in every aspect.”

Since his title unification win over Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 in January 2022, Ngannou has been out of action. He admitted that the feeling of competition has become unfamiliar, but he doesn’t anticipate any rust once he steps into the ring.
