Jordan Horston: Ready to Lead the New Era of Storm Basketball

Jordan Horston in the Seattle Storm’s Draft Day in April 2023 is quite a chock to the rookie player. The Storm never contacted her prior to the Draft since they assumed she would be chosen before it was their turn. But Horston, a 6-2 guard, was actually a great find for the team. Nevertheless, she initially hesitated about entering the Draft this year, feeling that she had “unfinished business” due to the lady vols not advancing past the Sweet 16 during her time at the University of Tennessee. After much contemplation and prayer, she felt that it was her time to go for it, having a better chance this year rather than the next year when the draft class was going to be competitive.

Describing her first W game as an “oh my gosh” moment, Horston realized she had finally made it. Each game is a learning experience for her, and she is determined to become the best player she can be. As of press time, Horston has played in 12 of the Storm’s 14 games and has impressive stats.

With the retirement of legend Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart now in New York, the 2023 Storm looks different than a year ago. The team welcomed nine new players, including four rookies. The adjustment to a new team and living in a new city has been exciting for Horston. She appreciates the change in atmosphere and is enjoying the kind people in Seattle. She also got a surprise graduation ceremony coordinated by her teammates, showcasing the bond they have built off the court.

Horston has overcome personal challenges to navigate the competitive nature of the League and is staying true to her playing style, always being aggressive and willing to give her all during games. Despite being a rookie, she has high expectations for her first season. Her ultimate goal is to be in the WNBA for a long time, continually growing as a player and an individual. Her off-court aspirations include making a mark in the fashion world, demonstrating her multidimensional nature. Overall, Horston is confident that being in the League is where she is truly meant to be.
