With a track record of two Olympic appearances, a gold medal in 2016, and a spot in the LPGA Hall of Fame, Inbee Park has been named as one of 32 candidates for the IOC Athletes’ Commission (IOC AC) election during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The IOC AC ensures that athletes’ perspectives are central to the decisions of the Olympic Movement, representing a diverse range of sports and National Olympic Committees to support athletes throughout their careers.
Nominated by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, Park, 35, stands as the only golfer among the 32 Olympians vying for an eight-year term.
A 21-time LPGA Tour winner and former World No. 1, Park’s extensive career includes seven major titles, notably the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open which she clinched at 19. Her triumph at the 2016 Rio Olympics, just after her induction as the youngest member of the LPGA’s Hall of Fame, saw her claim victory over Lydia Ko. Park also represented Korea at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, four candidates from different sports will be directly elected to the IOC AC by their peers. All athletes competing at Paris 2024 are eligible to vote in the Athlete365 House in the Olympic Villages.
If successful, Park would be elected by the IOC Session as a member of the IOC and would serve an eight-year term.
