Hubert Davis spotlights three dynamic “Green Light” individuals

Head coach Hubert Davis unveiled the sharpshooters in the UNC basketball program during media day.

As the 2023-2024 college basketball season approaches, the UNC basketball program is undergoing some changes. With a host of new players in the mix, Hubert Davis and his staff have a plethora of options to explore. Every team needs its “sharpshooters,” players who can consistently make shots regardless of the situation.

While not every player will have the “green light” to shoot, Davis has identified a trio of veterans who possess that capability. He revealed this information during the team’s media day.

Davis specifically mentioned guard R.J. Davis, along with newcomers Paxson Wojcik and Cormac Ryan, as the “green light” players in the UNC basketball program.

R.J. Davis, a senior, has consistently been one of the Tar Heels’ top scorers since his arrival on campus. Despite battling injuries, Davis averaged 16.1 points per game as a junior, making him the second-highest scorer on the team. His scoring has improved each season he has played at the collegiate level.

Wojcik, a transfer from Brown, comes to Chapel Hill with a career shooting percentage of 45.3% and a three-point shooting percentage of 36.5% during his college career. Sleeper Media also recognized him as one of the top 13 shooters in the country.

Ryan, a transfer from Notre Dame, is another experienced player who has demonstrated his scoring ability. The New York native boasts a career field goal percentage of 40%, including a three-point shooting percentage of 35.2%.

Last season, the UNC basketball program struggled with shooting, particularly from beyond the arc. However, with the addition of these three players and other notable recruits, the team has the potential to become a much-improved shooting unit in the upcoming season.
