Former Pitt Offensive Lineman Set to Make Exciting NFL Debut Start

The decision of the New York Jets to bench Zach Wilson for Tim Boyle is the headline story before the Jets’ 3 p.m. kickoff against the Miami Dolphins. However, another potential position change is brewing.

According to the New York Post’s Brian Costello, there is speculation that former Pitt offensive tackle Carter Warren will make his first NFL start at left tackle in place of usual starter Mekhi Becton who is inactive.

This will be Warren’s second career NFL game, following his 49 snaps against the Buffalo Bills last weekend. It’s his first opportunity to prove he is ready for a starting position.

The Jets drafted Carter Warren with the 120th pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, making him part of the group of Pitt linemen to be selected in the NFL Draft. Warren is expected to contribute to the offensive line as a long-time left tackle at Pitt, bringing versatility and experience.

Warren said at the NFL Combine, “A lot of teams were asking me if I can play right tackle, if I could possibly play guard, and my answer was yes. I can do it all. I played left tackle for four years, but here and there at practice, I’d play a little right tackle, as well. I played a little left guard as a freshman, so I have experience at both of those positions.”

He became a full-time starter at left tackle in 2019, making 39 starts over four seasons. Despite a setback in the 2022 season due to a torn meniscus, Warren has demonstrated his leadership both on and off the field.

As an All-ACC left tackle and a team captain, Warren’s physical attributes and leadership qualities position him as a valuable member of the Jets. Standing at 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, with excellent length and reach, Warren is expected to make significant contributions as a starting offensive lineman in the NFL.
