12 new candidates are on the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, and three former Mets are among the first-timers. These players include David Wright, Jose Reyes, and Bartolo Colon.
David Wright, who played his entire 14-year MLB career with the Mets, was a seven-time All-Star, won two Gold Gloves, and posted a .296 batting average with a .867 OPS. He became one of the most beloved players in franchise history and was the fourth captain in team history.
Jose Reyes signed with the Mets as a 16-year-old and played 12 of his 16 years in MLB with the team. He had a .283 batting average with a .761 OPS and was a four-time All-Star during his time with the Mets.
Bartolo Colon spent three years with the Mets and had a 3.90 ERA in 588.2 innings over 98 appearances with the team. He was a fan-favorite and a four-time All-Star, but all three players are considered long shots for Hall of Fame induction.
Other new candidates on the ballot include Jose Bautista, Adrian Beltre, Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Holliday, Victor Martinez, Joe Mauer, Brandon Phillips, James Shields, and Chase Utley. Additionally, there are 14 returning candidates from last year’s ballot.
Results of the election will be revealed on January 23, 2024, and the voting members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America can vote for up to 10 players.
