Florida basketball tops FIU in final secret scrimmage

The Florida Gators basketball team wrapped up their preseason schedule with an impressive 102-60 victory over FIU in their final secret scrimmage in Gainesville. The team showcased their talent and dominance on the court, setting the tone for the upcoming regular season.

Leading the charge for the Gators was junior guard Will Richard, who delivered an outstanding performance with a team-high 29 points. Richard’s shooting was impeccable, going 9 of 12 from the field and connecting on 3 of 6 three-point attempts. Alongside Richard, sophomore guard Riley Kugel contributed 19 points and 4 assists, showcasing his skills and versatility. Meanwhile, freshman forward Alex Condon made his presence felt inside the paint, tallying 6 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots.

The Gators utilized their defensive prowess to their advantage, capitalizing on FIU’s turnovers and converting them into 33 points. They also dominated the paint, outscoring the Golden Panthers 60-24. However, the Gators recognized the need to improve their ball security, as they turned the ball over 19 times themselves.

Looking ahead, the Gators have an open orange-and-blue intrasquad scrimmage scheduled for Thursday night at the O’Connell Center, providing fans with the opportunity to see the team in action. The regular season will kick off on November 6th, with the Gators taking on Loyola-Maryland at home.
