It seems like just yesterday we were eager for college football to begin as we struggled through the heat of summer. But now, Notre Dame has wrapped up their regular season at 9-3, filled with many highs and lows. So, what’s next for the Irish fans as we head into bowl season and the next year? There are a lot of pieces at play and more to come, so let’s look into the three key questions that are on the minds of Irish fans now that the regular season is over.
Very Familiar Bowl Opponent?
In case you missed it, both Notre Dame and LSU finished their seasons at 9-3. There’s a strong chance that Freeman-led Notre Dame and Kelly-led LSU will face each other in late December. The media loves this scenario as it creates an exciting storyline, but I wish this matchup was for elite status, not a debate of who has more losses.
OC Decision
Notre Dame ended the year with an impressive points-per-game average of above 39, ranking ninth nationally. But the difference between good and bad defenses leaves fans wondering what the plan is for the future. The big game results are not impressive, and the PPG average masks that. The pressure is on with regard to the Parker experiment.
Another QB Change Is Coming
After embracing Sam Hartman, Notre Dame fans now face another QB debate. Will the quarterback position go to Steve Angeli, Kenny Minchey, or another transfer QB? The Irish aren’t there yet, and the QB carousel continues to spin. Locking onto a young homegrown player may be in Notre Dame’s best interest, but that’s yet to be seen.
