The San Francisco 49ers will receive reinforcements from their practice squad for Sunday’s game.
The San Francisco 49ers have elevated defensive lineman Austin Bryant and cornerback Kendall Sheffield from the practice squad in preparation for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
This will be the second elevation for both players from the practice squad. The 49ers are seeking to add depth at defensive end and cornerback positions.
The team is down a defensive lineman as edge rusher Randy Gregory will be inactive for the game. To accommodate the trade, the 49ers cut defensive end Kerry Hyder.
As a result, it was anticipated that the 49ers would call up an additional defensive lineman, and Bryant earned the opportunity after previously suiting up for the team in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In addition, the 49ers have been consistently elevating a cornerback since Samuel Womack went on Injured Reserve. Sheffield has been chosen for the second consecutive week.
While the 49ers have five cornerbacks on their 53-man roster, Sheffield’s elevation may indicate that newly-signed defensive back Anthony Brown will be scratched for a second straight week. Brown is still recovering from a torn Achilles suffered last season.
Elijah Mitchell is the only player ruled out due to injury for the 49ers this week. Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano’s status is questionable after entering concussion protocol last week. However, he practiced in full on Friday after missing the first two days of practice.
