ESPN projects Florida’s bowl game, opponent after Week 9 loss to Georgia

The Florida Gators are laser-focused on defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend and attaining bowl eligibility. However, ESPN has already turned its attention to the postseason matchups.

Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have been continuously updating these projections since their preseason release in August. And now, with the College Football Playoff rankings underway, they have every reason to keep going.

According to the latest projections, the Gators are still projected to participate in either the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl (as per Bonagura) or the Duke’s Mayo Bowl (as per Schlabach). However, there have been changes in the projected opponent for Florida in this week’s update.

Instead of Notre Dame, Bonagura predicts that the North Carolina Tarheels will face Florida in the Gator Bowl, while Schlabach replaces Clemson with Georgia Tech.

If the Gators manage to defeat Arkansas, they will have three opportunities to cause upsets and change their destiny. However, facing LSU and Missouri on the road won’t be an easy task. Additionally, hosting a top-five-ranked Florida State team in the regular season’s closing game doesn’t sound too enjoyable either.

If the Gators can emerge victorious in one of these three games, the projections are likely to fluctuate significantly.
