Manchester United Shocking 1-0 Defeat against Newcastle Ends in Frustration
A furious Erik ten Hag will converse with Marcus Rashford following his disappointing display in Manchester United’s 1-0 loss at Newcastle on Saturday.
The Magpies secured a win at St James’ Park thanks to Anthony Gordon’s second-half goal. The result marks United’s 10th defeat in all competitions this season, dropping the team to seventh place in the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Newcastle has surged to fifth spot.
Despite a narrow win, Newcastle dominated at St James’ Park with 22 attempts on goal and 59% possession, while the visitors managed just one shot on target during the game.
Rashford displayed a lackluster performance, failing to make an impression against Newcastle’s defense and getting substituted by Ten Hag after Gordon’s winning goal. TNT Sports commentator Ally McCoist described his display as “very poor”.
Ten Hag spoke to TNT Sports after the game, expressing visible frustration with his team and offering a blunt response when asked about Rashford’s performance. “I’ll talk with him about that, not with the media,” he said.
Rashford scored 30 goals for United last season but has managed just two in 18 appearances this time around. Calls are increasing for Rashford to be dropped from the England squad due to Gordon’s excellent form for Newcastle.
“I think he has to be in consideration,” former Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas told TNT Sports when asked if Rashford should be dropped for Gordon.
