Dustin Johnson vs. Phil Mickelson highlights Saturday’s semifinal round at 2023 LIV Golf Team Championship

These four team captains had the opportunity to choose their opponents, resulting in intriguing matchups for Saturday’s matches. The marquee match of the round will feature Johnson’s 4Aces GC against Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC. Another match that might catch the attention of viewers is Watson versus Sergio Garcia as the RangeGoats GC take on the Fireballs GC. DeChambeau’s Crushers will face off against Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC, while Niemann’s Torque GC will compete against Louis Oosthuizen’s Stinger GC.

During the first round of the 2023 LIV Golf Team Championship Miami at Trump National Doral, Brooks Koepka of Smash GC delivered an outstanding performance on Friday. He defeated Mickelson with a decisive score of 6 and 4. Eugenio Chacarra from the Fireballs GC also showcased his skills by defeating Sam Horsfield of Majesticks GC with a score of 6 and 5. Stinger GC’s team achieved a clean sweep against Iron Heads GC, winning all three matches before reaching the 18th hole.

High Stakes

This week, a staggering $50 million prize is up for grabs, with $14 million awarded to the winning team. The tournament format combines both match play and stroke play. The quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday and Saturday consist of three matches each round, including two singles matches and a foursomes (alternate shot) match. There are no ties, and the first team to secure two points advances to the next round. On Sunday, all 12 teams will compete in stroke play, with all four scores counting towards the team total (unlike regular season events where the worst score is dropped). However, only the top four teams will have a chance to win the top prize. The teams that lose on Saturday will battle for places 5-8, while the Friday’s losers will compete for places 9-12.
