Detroit Pistons new City Edition jerseys leaked

Detroit Pistons fans were treated to an early glimpse of the 2023-24 City Edition jerseys with the leak of all 30 NBA alternate jerseys online, several days before the start of the season.

The jerseys are sleek black, featuring red stitching along the seams, with the word “Detroit” elegantly spelled out in cursive on the front. The lettering is in white, while the numbers are in gray. The sides of the jersey are patterned with a basketball inside of crossbones, paying homage to the iconic Bad Boys era.

This new design marks a significant departure from the unique green jerseys worn by the Pistons last season as a tribute to the historic St. Cecilia gym in Detroit. It also becomes the seventh distinct City Edition jersey design for the Pistons since the 2017-18 season.

For the upcoming season, the Pistons will now have two black alternate jerseys. In addition to the City Edition jersey, there will be the Statement jersey, an all-black attire with “DET” boldly written in all caps on the front and red and blue stripes adorning the chest and sides of the shorts.

With the addition of these two black alternates, the Pistons now have a total of four jerseys for the upcoming season, including their white home jerseys and blue road jerseys. It is currently unknown whether the classic teal jerseys that returned last season will still be worn this year. NBA teams are allowed up to five different uniforms to wear during the season.

This is not the first time the City Edition jersey has been black. During the 2018-19 season, the last time the Pistons made the playoffs, they wore an all-black jersey featuring “Motor City” on the front, with gray lettering, gray numbers, and two vertical gray stripes in the middle.

The Pistons will kick off their season on Wednesday with an away game against the Miami Heat, who are the reigning Eastern Conference champions. They will then make their home debut on Saturday against the Chicago Bulls in a back-to-back scenario.
