SYDNEY ROCKETT: Hello, I’m Sydney Rockett from Yahoo Sports. Today, I’m here with Candace Parker to talk about her documentary, “Unapologetic,” premiering on ESPN. Are you considering playing in the WNBA in the next season?

CANDACE PARKER: I hope so. I’ve made a promise to myself not to play through injuries anymore. After Halloween, I had a realization that there’s more to life after basketball. I want to be able to enjoy activities and time with my children without limitations.

I’m passionate about beach volleyball and outdoor activities. I don’t want to restrict myself to one more season.

SYDNEY ROCKETT: In your documentary, you mentioned aiming for six to seven championship rings in high school. Now that you’ve achieved significant success in the league, what’s your perspective on that goal?

CANDACE PARKER: Winning championships requires everything to fall into place. An experience at the premiere made me realize that even the best case scenario could have resulted in just five championships. There were moments where a single shot could have changed everything. So, the three championships I have are hard-earned and symbolize different achievements.

SYDNEY ROCKETT: What are you most looking forward to viewers taking away from your documentary?

CANDACE PARKER: I’m excited for viewers to explore different aspects of my life portrayed in the documentary. Whether it’s motherhood, basketball pressures, post-basketball transition, or relationships, I hope they connect with the various layers. I want them to relate to my experiences with people-pleasing, self-doubt, and handling others’ opinions. This is where the name “Unapologetic” truly resonates in the documentary.
