Brock Nelson leads Islanders to 3-2 victory over Flyers with two goals

NEW YORK (AP) — Brock Nelson scored twice, with Anders Lee also finding the net as the New York Islanders secured a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night.

Pierre Engvall and Adam Pelech provided two assists each, while Ilya Sorokin made 34 saves to help the Islanders break their seven-game losing streak (0-4-3) and win their second consecutive game.

Cam York and Joel Farabee scored for the Flyers, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. Carter Hart stopped 22 shots for Philadelphia.

The Islanders have dominated the Flyers in recent matchups, boasting a 12-2-0 record in the last 14 games and winning eight straight home games against Philadelphia.

Lee opened the scoring early in the first period, followed by Nelson’s goal with less than seven minutes remaining in the second period. York then got the Flyers on the board before Nelson netted his second goal in the third period. Farabee scored the Flyers’ second goal with just over four minutes left in regulation.

Cal Clutterbuck of the Islanders played his 1,000th NHL game, waving to the crowd from the bench during a tribute in the second period. The Flyers will face the Islanders once again on Saturday after hosting the Rangers on Friday. This will be one of only three meetings between the two teams this season, with their next matchup not until April 1.
