The FHSAA state golf tournaments are set to begin on Tuesday at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, with Brevard County high schools competing in both Class 3A and 1A.
Viera High School’s girls team will be participating in the 3A tournament on Friday and Saturday, playing on the challenging Las Colinas course. In the previous round at Royal St. Cloud, the Hawks narrowly missed tying for first place with St. Cloud and Lake Nona, finishing just one shot behind. Hannah Hall’s impressive score of 72 led the team and tied her for third place. On the other hand, the boys’ team will be showcasing their skills on the El Campeon course. Shayaan Kim achieved a remarkable score of 69, which tied him for the lowest score. The boys’ team also performed well, securing the third position in Region 2-3A at The Legends at Orange Lake in Kissimmee.
The Brevard Heat girls’ team, led by Gracie Carter’s superb performance of 69 at Cocoa Beach Country Club, will be vying for the 1A title. They emerged victorious in the Region 2-1A field. The upcoming tournament on Nov. 14-15 will also take place on the Las Colinas course. Additionally, Holy Trinity’s Zhibo Zhang will be representing the school as a 1A individual on those same days but on the El Campeon course.
In the Region 2-2A tournament at Drubsdead Golf Course, Cocoa’s Thomas Makela secured a respectable fourth place with his score of 74. Grey Cooke from Astronaut tied for sixth place with a 76 but narrowly missed out on advancing to the state tournament as an individual.
