At least 9 wounded in Russian attacks across Ukraine. European Commission head visits Kyiv

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian attacks in Ukraine have resulted in injuries to at least 14 civilians in the past 24 hours, as confirmed by officials on Saturday. This comes as the president of the European Commission returned to the Ukrainian capital for a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The governor of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yurii Malashko, reported that nine individuals were wounded during a Russian rocket strike on the village of Zarichne. In total, the region has witnessed attacks on 26 cities and settlements within the past day.

In the Kherson region, five people were injured from artillery, mortars, drones, warplanes, and tanks, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin. In Nikopol, a city situated opposite the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is the largest in Europe, there has been no immediate report of injuries despite the city coming under fire, according to Dnipropetrovsk regional Governor Serhii Lysak.

The head of the European Commission, , arrived in Kyiv on Saturday morning and was welcomed by Zelenskyy at the train station. In a recent post on X (previously known as Twitter), she stated that discussions during her sixth visit would primarily revolve around Ukraine’s path to joining the European Union, as well as devising strategies to hold Russia accountable for its acts of aggression.
