Arthur Fils and Hamad Medjedovic maintain flawless record to advance to semifinals at the Next Gen Finals

In JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, Arthur Fils and Hamad Medjedovic continued their undefeated streak at the Next Gen Finals on Thursday, securing their spots in the semifinals.

The top-seeded Fils triumphed over Dominic Stricker with a score of 4-2, 3-4 (3), 4-2, 4-3 (5), marking his third consecutive victory in the round-robin stage.

Stricker also advanced to the semifinals for the top eight ATP Tour players aged 21 or under, following Luca Nardi’s win over Flavio Cobolli. Nardi’s victory helped Stricker secure his spot in the semis after just needing to win one set.

Medjedovic staged a comeback to defeat Jordanian wild card Abdullah Shelbayh with scores of 3-4 (6), 4-2, 4-3 (5), 4-2. The Serbian sixth seed will now face Stricker in the semifinals.

In another match, Luca Van Assche’s win against Alex Michelsen secured his spot in the final four. Van Assche will face his compatriot, Fils, in the next round.

This edition of the Next Gen Finals is the first to be held in Saudi Arabia, as it has been previously staged in Milan since its inception in 2017. The event also features changes to the usual tennis rules, including shorter changeovers and less time on the shot clock for certain points.

Fils is the only player in the draw ranked in the top 50. Other top-ranked eligible players, such as Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, are exempt due to their qualification for the ATP Finals, while Ben Shelton is sidelined due to medical reasons and Lorenzo Musetti withdrew for personal reasons.
