The Auburn Tigers, favored by 9.5 points, faced Appalachian State on Sunday for a chance to extend their winning streak to six games. Unfortunately, the Tigers fell short with a poor offensive performance on the road. Despite their strong defense, Auburn’s inefficiency on offense led to a disappointing game.
Auburn scored only 64 points, shooting 39% from the field and 11% from 3-point range. Freshman Aden Holloway struggled, scoring just 8 points on 2 for 10 shooting in his first true road game. While forward Johni Broome scored 21 points, the rest of the Tigers’ supporting staff disappeared in the game.
Appalachian State, on the other hand, had contributions from multiple players, with four of them scoring in double figures. Their bench outscored Auburn 40-27, and guards Terence Harcum and Myles Tate led the upset charge, combining for 30 points.
The loss may be disheartening, but Auburn’s offensive struggles are not uncommon in early road games. The team is expected to regroup before hosting Indiana next Saturday at Neville Arena.
