Cal hits 15 3-pointers in 20-point rout of Cal State Bakersfield

After suffering their first loss of the season, Cal rebounded with a decisive victory on Monday night to kick off the second week of action. Newcomers Jalen Cone and Jaylon Tyson made a significant impact, contributing to the Bears’ 83-63 win over visiting Cal State Bakersfield at Haas Pavilion.

Coner’s exceptional shooting performance led the way with 23 points, all from 3-point range, as the Bears connected on 15 3-pointers out of 36 attempts. Meanwhile, Tyson displayed his versatility, nearly securing a triple-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Despite a tied game in the first half, Cal’s seven 3-pointers, including four from Cone, gave them a 15-point lead going into halftime. This burst set the tone for the rest of the game, with the Bears maintaining the lead and never relinquishing control to the Roadrunners.

While Cal faced a brief challenge as the Roadrunners closed the gap, they quickly extended their lead once again, with contributions from Aimaq, Askew, and Tyson. Aimaq finished the game with 14 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out, while Askew added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Cal’s dominance extended to the rebounding game, finishing with a 45-33 advantage and securing an impressive 17-7 lead in offensive rebounds.
