Lakers owner Jeanie Buss refuted Dennis Rodman’s recent claim that they dated in 1999. She recently appeared on “In Depth with Graham Bensinger,” to clarify her relationship with Rodman during his time with the Lakers.
Buss explained that her relationship with Rodman was more of a need for constant supervision rather than dating, saying, “when my dad [former Lakers owner Jerry Buss] brought on Dennis Rodman to the team it was kind of like, ‘Let’s make sure that we know where he is at all times.'” This seems to suggest that her involvement with Rodman was more of a babysitting job.
Rodman had a different perspective on their relationship, claiming they dated for six months. According to him, his connection with Buss shifted the attention from Kobe and Shaq. However, Rodman’s time with the Lakers was short-lived; he was released after 23 games due to several incidents, later signing with the Dallas Mavericks in January 2000.
Buss also has a personal life beyond her professional dealings. She reportedly tied the knot with comedian Jay Mohr, and they have been an item since 2017. Previously, she was engaged to Phil Jackson, who coached the Lakers.
In terms of their romantic relationship, Buss and Jackson, who won five championships with the Lakers, announced their split on social media in December 2016.
