2024 Brisbane Open to Kick Off with Reigning Australian Open Champ Sabalenka

Reigning Australian Open champion and World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka is set to kick off her 2024 season at the Brisbane International, a WTA 500 event starting on Dec. 31.

Joining her will be World No.4 Elena Rybakina, with both players leading the 48-player field and former World No.1s Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka also in the mix.

“I’m thrilled to start my 2024 Australian season in Brisbane,” Sabalenka shared. “Australia holds a special place in my heart after winning my first Grand Slam there.

“I’m eager to make my debut at the Brisbane International and compete in front of the Queensland tennis fans.”

Sabalenka began her 2023 season with a 13-match win streak, clinching titles in Adelaide and the Australian Open. Her success continued throughout the year, making her the most consistent player on the Hologic WTA Tour at the Grand Slams, reaching the semifinals or better at each event. By making her second major final of the year at the US Open, Sabalenka secured the World No.1 spot in September.

Rybakina, on the other hand, followed up her 2022 Wimbledon victory with a strong 2023 season, breaking into the Top 10 for the first time. She also made it to the second major final in Melbourne, went on to win Indian Wells and Rome, and achieved a 4-1 record against reigning World No.1s.
