The finalists for the 2023 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were revealed on Wednesday afternoon, generating excitement among baseball fans. The winners of these prestigious awards will be announced on ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” on Sunday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Each position in each league has three finalists, including the newly added utility spot, which was introduced last year in 2022. The winners are determined through a voting process. The 30 MLB managers and up to six coaches from each team vote for players in their respective leagues, excluding players from their own team. These votes make up 75% of the selection process, while the remaining 25% is based on the SABR Defensive Index.
The utility position differs from the traditional selection process as Rawlings partnered with SABR to create a specialized defensive formula. This collaboration adds a unique element to the award selection.
