Former Middle Tennessee State defensive end Zaylin Wood announced his commitment to transfer to Vanderbilt football via Instagram on Tuesday.
Wood, a grad transfer with one year of eligibility left, made 16 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble in 2023.
He reportedly had offers from Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky, Liberty, UConn, and South Florida, but ultimately chose to fill a position of need for the Commodores, who struggled with pass rush in 2023.
Wood’s most notable season was in 2022, where he recorded 34 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, a pick-6, and two fumble recoveries. He was also an honorable mention All-Conference USA and a team captain for the Blue Raiders.
Wood’s transfer marks the first commit for Vanderbilt in the current offseason, as other players like quarterbacks Ken Seals and AJ Swann, and linebacker Ethan Barr, have already declared their intentions to transfer.
