Zac Gallen named Game 1 starter for Diamondbacks

Former North Carolina Tar Heels’ ace Zac Gallen has played a crucial role in leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to their first World Series appearance since 2001. Now, he has the privilege of starting Game 1 and initiating the series.

After the Diamondbacks secured a triumphant victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 7 of the NLCS, manager Torey Lovullo announced that Gallen would have the honor of pitching in Game 1 on Friday night.

Gallen previously started Game 1 against the Phillies in the NLCS but unfortunately suffered a loss on the road. In the upcoming game, he will square off against Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi in Arlington.

During the playoffs, Gallen has a record of 2-2 with a 5.24 ERA in two games started. His losses came from Game 1 on the road and Game 5 at home against the Phillies in the NLCS. Comparatively, he maintained a 7.86 ERA in the NLC, while achieving a 3.00 ERA and a 3.38 ERA in the Wild Card and NLDS series, respectively.

The World Series will officially commence at 8:03 p.m. on Friday night.
