Chase Young has been following in the footsteps of Nick Bosa ever since he stepped onto the Ohio State gridiron in 2017. Bosa, who played for the Buckeyes for three years, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Young, on the other hand, recorded 30.5 sacks during his three seasons at Ohio State and became the No. 2 overall pick in the following year.

In 2019, Bosa won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and Young claimed the same title in 2020. Now, after the 49ers

acquired Young in a trade
with the Washington Commanders, the two pass-rushing phenoms will be teammates in the Bay.

Young has always expressed his admiration for Bosa, even before entering the league. At the 2020 NFL Combine, he said, “He’s always setting a standard. That’s just motivation for me to achieve a lot of really good things. It’s definitely been a blessing to watch him grow into the player that he is. He’s definitely helped me along this journey, and he hasn’t stopped. I’m just grateful to be able to see him grow.”

The 49ers and Commanders have faced each other twice since Young joined the league. However, their victory against Washington on Christmas Eve last year was the only time both Bosa and Young were active players. During the game, Young hyped up Bosa to his Commanders teammates on the sideline, praising his technique and predicting he would have a strong performance.

Bosa’s recent struggles in finishing sacks might be one of the reasons why the 49ers traded for Young. Despite his past success, Bosa has only recorded three sacks in eight games this season. However, with Young now on the team, the 49ers hope to get Bosa back on track and pose a serious threat to quarterbacks.
