The Yankees approached Friday’s non-tender deadline with a sizable group of eligible players, ultimately opting not to extend contracts to three of them.
The organization revealed on Friday night that RHP Albert Abreu, LHP Anthony Misiewicz, and RHP Lou Trivino will hit free agency.
Abreu stands out as the most prominent name in the mix, having spent the past four seasons with the Yankees. During this time, the right-hander appeared in 108 games, securing a 6-5 record, a .545 ERA, and 1.44 WHIP.
Trivino, acquired as part of the Frankie Montas deal from Oakland, delivered a solid performance for the Yanks. He participated in 25 games in 2022, boasting a 1.66 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Unfortunately, an arm injury in May abruptly ended his season.
Furthermore, Jake Bauers was also eligible for a tendered contract but was ultimately traded earlier in the day to the Brewers for two minor league outfielders.
While Abreu, Misiewicz, and Trivino received non-tenders, seven eligible players, including some big names such as Gleyber Torres, Kyle Higashioka, and Clay Holmes, were extended a 2024 contract.
It’s important to note that players on each team’s 40-man roster who are not under contract and have fewer than six years of major league service time must be tendered a contract each offseason by the non-tender deadline. This also includes players who are due raises via arbitration.
Prior to the 2023 non-tender deadline, the Yankees faced a decision regarding 10 players. Here’s what they are/were projected to make in 2024.
