Yankees add prospects Clayton Beeter, Agustin Ramirez to 40-man roster for Rule 5 Draft protection

The New York Yankees made some key additions to their 40-man roster ahead of the upcoming Rule 5 Draft in Nashville, Tenn. RHP Clayton Beeter and C Agustin Ramirez were added to the roster to protect them from the possibility of being selected by other MLB clubs.

Under the Rule 5 Draft guidelines, players who signed at 18 or earlier must be on a team’s 40-man roster within five seasons, while those who signed at 19 or older have a four-season window.

In the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft, a club can select a player by paying $100,000. If the player does not remain on the 26-man roster for the entire season, they can be offered back to their former team for $50,000.

Both Beeter, 25, and Ramirez, 24, are considered among the top 30 prospects in the Yankees’ system, according to MLB.com.

Beeter was acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade for Joey Gallo. The right-handed pitcher split last season between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, posting a 3.62 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 131.2 IP over 26 starts.

Ramirez, who signed with the Yankees from the Dominican Republic, had an impressive 2023 season, playing for the Low-A Tampa Tarpons, High-A Hudson Valley Renegades, and Double-A Somerset. He slashed .271/.364/.455 with 18 home runs and 69 RBI in 114 games across the three stops.
