Wolverines come in at No. 2 in ESPN FPI rankings after win over Michigan State

The Michigan Wolverines delivered another extraordinary performance on Saturday night, as they traveled to rival Michigan State and shut out the Spartans with a score of 49-0. The Wolverines displayed dominance from the beginning and accomplished their first shutout of the season, much to everyone’s surprise.

This victory propelled the Wolverines two positions higher in the latest ESPN FPI rankings, now only trailing their rival Ohio State. The computers have not shown much favor towards the Wolverines this season, but their complete domination over their rival resulted in a climb to the No. 2 spot, with a mere 1.2-point difference from the Buckeyes.

Penn State occupies the No. 3 spot despite their recent loss to Ohio State, solidifying the Big Ten’s dominance in the top three rankings. Oklahoma dropped two spots to No. 4 after a narrow victory against UCF with a score of 31-29. Alabama closely follows at No. 5, overcoming a 20-7 halftime deficit to defeat Tennessee.

Elsewhere, Florida State climbs to No. 6 after their win against Duke, maintaining an undefeated record. Texas holds the seventh spot after narrowly surviving against Houston. Georgia, LSU, and Oregon complete the top 10. The Ducks still remain two positions ahead of Washington, despite their loss to the rival team last Saturday.

The Wolverines will enjoy a bye week next Saturday before their upcoming home game against Purdue. Following that, they will face Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State in the final three weeks, which mark the toughest part of their schedule.

The Wolverines are finally receiving recognition, although many fans still believe they should be ranked ahead of Ohio State. The answer to that debate will come in five weeks at the Big House.
