The Las Vegas Aces emerged as the WNBA Champions for the 2022-2023 season, solidifying their status as the league’s new dynasty. However, their recent encounter with Usher tickets has sparked some turmoil within the team.
Following in the footsteps of the Houston Comets from ’97-’00 and the Minnesota Lynx from ’11-’17, the Aces have established themselves as a dominant force in the WNBA. Since relocating to Paradise, Nevada in 2018, they have made three out of the past four WNBA Finals appearances. The Aces are also the first team to win back-to-back championships since Lisa Leslie led the LA Sparks to victory in ’01-’02.
A significant factor in the Aces’ success is their star player, A’Ja Wilson. Wilson was the team’s first pick after the relocation, and she has consistently proven herself to be the right choice. In her five-year career, the 27-year-old has amassed numerous accolades, including Rookie of the Year, Finals MVP, two-time MVP, two-time DPOY, and five-time All-Star.

After clinching the championship, Wilson celebrated with a memorable post-game conference. In a slightly intoxicated state, she playfully called out Usher, urging him to join the Aces’ parade. Wilson exclaimed, “Usher, I better see you, Usher. I’m not playing with you.”
This year, she reiterated her invitation to Usher during another post-game conference. She remarked, “Usher, I saw you celebrated ‘National Usher Day’ recently. Thank you so much for that. But we’re lit, we’re lit. The parade is on Monday night, so you have plenty of time.”
Wilson even took to Twitter to extend her invitation, tweeting, “Hey @Usher, if you’re not busy, our parade is tomorrow… if you wanna slide.”
In a bid to grab Usher’s attention, Wilson appeared on “Good Morning America” and appealed directly to him, saying, “Usher, I know you have a residency here. Come on, you’ve got nothing to do on a Monday. Pull up, have some fun. We can even be your background singers, anything.”
Although Usher missed the parade, he eventually caught wind of Wilson’s messages. On October 25, he took to X to congratulate the team. Usher said, “Shout out to the defending champs, the Vegas Aces. A’ja Wilson, I got your message. I see you, I hear you. I couldn’t be at the parade, but I wanted to send this out to say congratulations to you and all the lovely ladies who once again achieved greatness.”
Furthermore, Usher extended an invitation to Wilson for one of his shows during his Vegas residency. In response, Wilson posted a gif of a woman fainting, expressing her excitement. Fans also joined in, eagerly anticipating the possibility of Usher serenading Wilson and igniting a frenzy on WNBA Twitter.
One enthusiastic fan commented, “Usher is going to serenade A’ja, and WNBA Twitter is going to lose their collective minds. I can’t wait.” Even the WNBA’s official account chimed in, saying, “You heard him @_ajawilson22, 7 o’clock on the dot in your drop top!”
However, Wilson’s teammate Sydney Colson felt a tinge of disappointment. After realizing that Usher only mentioned Wilson in the invitation, she jokingly expressed her sentiments, saying, “A’ja hit us up in the group chat, talking about ‘WE’ are invited to see Usher. But now that I’m watching the video…SHE was invited. That’s cool, that’s fine! But why lie to your teammates?”
Wilson wasted no time in responding to Colson’s comment, playfully mocking her performance in game 4 where she scored only 2 points. Wilson replied, “Lolololololololol, Syd scores 2 points in game 4 and thinks she can get Usher tickets. Awww,” accompanied by a gif of Katherine Heigl fake crying on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

One fan reacting to Wilson’s post remarked, “This is how y’all talk to each other,” while another described the exchange as “ruthless.”
Jokingly, Colson warned Wilson to tread lightly as she shared a picture of Wilson getting elbowed by the New York Liberty’s Jonquel Jones during a game this summer.
