NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2023 – This year’s Championship and Finals MVP trophies, to be presented at the conclusion of the 2023 WNBA Finals presented by YouTube TV, are the latest additions to the league’s new trophy collection. Each trophy incorporates meaningful details that hold significance to the WNBA’s rich history. The deliberate use of size, shape, and finish is intended to emphasize this connection.

“We are delighted to reveal a brand-new trophy collection that pays homage to the WNBA’s past and paves the way for its future,” stated WNBA Chief Marketing Officer Phil Cook. “These thoughtfully designed trophies honor the exceptional achievements of players and symbolize the WNBA’s growth over the past three decades.”

Postseason Trophies

The Championship and Finals MVP trophies, crafted by Tiffany & Co., maintain the longstanding partnership between the WNBA and the esteemed American luxury house that began in the league’s inaugural season in 1997.

As a tribute to the alternating panels of the WNBA’s iconic game ball, contrasting finishes adorn the spherical tops of both trophies. The slanted stems pay homage to the original WNBA logo and Championship trophy design. Weighing approximately 26 pounds and standing at approximately 25 inches high, the Championship trophy was meticulously handcrafted at the Tiffany hollowware workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island. It required about 16 weeks of work, totaling 70 labor hours. The base of the trophy bears the names of the previous champions, a tribute to the league’s trailblazers.

End-of-Season and Event Trophies

Created in collaboration with artist Victor Solomon, the end-of-season and event trophies have been reimagined to embody the level of achievement associated with WNBA honors.

“I am honored to expand my partnership with the WNBA on this comprehensive new collection of trophies,” commented Solomon. “Throughout our elevation of all athlete honors, our guiding principles have stayed the same: a trophy represents the pinnacle of athletic success and should be as thoughtful, innovative, and creative as the athletes who dedicate their lives to attaining it. I’m grateful to the WNBA for their trust and support in realizing this bold vision for the new collection.”

The Kia WNBA MVP trophy, standing at 19 inches tall, celebrates the past recipients of this prestigious award. Its 16-inch-tall logowoman symbolizes the 16 players who have attained this honor. The 3-inch-tall triangular base pays tribute to the three WNBA legends who have each won the Kia WNBA MVP Award three times: Lauren Jackson, Lisa Leslie, and Sheryl Swoopes.

Earlier in the season, the WNBA introduced new All-Star and Commissioner’s Cup trophies during their respective events.

The Kia Skills Challenge and Starry 3-Point Contest Champion trophies are 14-inch-tall star-shaped crystal columns with a silver contrasting ball embedded in them. The All-Star MVP trophy also features the star-shaped crystal column design and stands at 13 inches tall to represent the number of players who have received this prestigious award. It sits on a two-tiered, 19-sided base that acknowledges the three multiple-time recipients (3-inch-tall bottommost base), the two WNBA conferences (2-inch-tall uppermost base), and the number of WNBA All-Star games played to date (19).
